In February 1865 the Confederacy launched the HL Hunley submarine; a small event in the scope of the Civil War, but a large step forward in Naval warfare as this was the first known submarine attack. On that fateful evening, the Hunley sank the Union ship, Housatonic. The Hunley was lost and her crew of eight perished. The mystery of the Hunley has remained a mystery until now.
